'FOCUS OR ELSE'(24 L x 13 W x 4 1/2" D)for the week of August 2nd
What didn't translate in this picture was the light blue which was applied to the underside of this piece to reflect in the high gloss finish of the white backer-board. You can sort of see it on the left side but the lighting didn't work in this photo.

45 of 52 'TUXEDO PARK'
'TUXEDO PARK' (17 1/2 L x 7 1/2 W x 4"D) for the week of June 28th
Back in the day, my good friend Micah and I shared this sweet little apartment which was situated on the third floor of this massive old home. This apartment was surrounded by old oak trees which gave it this rebellious, tree house feel. It had a great view of an expansive industrial wasteland with the lower Willamette river as it's back-drop; just a tad south of the "Goss Guyland" bridge.
Many fond memories remain about this place but the one I love to tell is the time we had a New Year's Eve party. The party was great, but the memory really starts when my buddies Mark, Micah and I decided we needed to initiate the night by leaving a mark. A memento to tell everyone, if not just us, that we endured and sought to endure, regardless of the difficulty, risk or thoughtlessness. The mission: stake the pirate flag just on the edge of the river at the very end of the dilapidated dock, in plain view of our tree house deck.
The hangover was intensified by the foxtails in my socks and barbed wire scrapes. But what we eagerly awoke to on that stunningly clear, crisp January morning was the gently flowing ambitions of our drunken stupor. It was a memorably great way to start a day!

Below is a shot of 'Emblem,' it's a 300 pound behemoth made from powder coated steel and juniper. This was hanging in John Paul's place for a bit. I just got it back and have been spending some time with it. I may come to terms with it once my shoulder mends.

'I OWE A LOT BUT NOT EVERYTHING'(5 1/4L x 6 1/4W x 3"D)for the week of March 22nd
Legos,...is there much else to say. I spent endless hours creating and building towns, empires and worlds. The great thing is, I still feel like a kid when I realize the direction. Feverishly working the material with the nervous feeling of anticipation just to see it realized.

For some reason I kept reflecting on this art (pictured below) I found years ago in an industrial waste land next to some railroad tracks. I really wanted to take it home but I figured the spirit in which it was created would be lost.

22 of 52 'EL CAPTAIN'
Long story short, I found Captain Zero when I was picking up these seedpods one morning on the beach in Cocles. This, blew my mind because I was reading a book about him as Julie and I traveled around Costa Rica. My reading and my life met in real time. Later that evening we shared a couple rounds at the La Isla Inn with the Captain and his buddy, a very intense Canuck who worked oil rigs in the Persian Gulf. Fond memories....
The seedpods are lined with enamel paint, which are inset onto a slab off hemlock fir-ply. Simple, imperfect but potent.
